Developmental and Administrative Experience

1. Played a key role in the designing & construction of new neonatal O.T, I.C.U and  Nursery at Mayo Hospital , Lahore
2. Services Hospital, Lahore Was requested by the Dean PGMI, Lahore , to help in starting a new unit in the services hospital, Lahore, after its affiliation with the Post Graduate Medical Institute, Lahore,
worked in collaboration with the Professor incharge and started the new unit.
3. Children’s Hospital and Institute of Child Health, Ferozepur Road, Lahore.
Was requested by Project Director, THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL & THE INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH,
Lahore, to shift here & help in establishing the Dept. of Surgery and Surgical Specialities.
4. Played a key part in getting the hospital recognized by the College of Physicians
and Surgeons , Pakistan for the training of FCPS Part I students, in Paediatric Surgery and
Medicine The department at present consists of 50 beds, including the neonatal Intensive
care unit, an Intensive care unit etc
5. Designed a regular teaching programme for Post Graduates in Paediatric Surgery.
Supervisor of sixteen Post Graduates (The largest number in the country in any unit of
Paediatric Surgery).
6. At present Visiting consultants from all over the country are giving lectures to the
residents of the department of Surgery on various topics, helping in better training of the
residents and increasing their horizon, as they have a chance to meet consultants and
discuss with them different aspects of many surgical problems. This gives them a broader
outlook.
7. Editor of the only journal of Paediatric Surgery in Pakistan Recognized by PMDC.
8. Started the first Paediatric stoma care Centre in Pakistan at Children’s Hospital,
Ferozepur Road, Lahore.
9. Arranged Training for stoma Care Nurses at AKUH without any Government help.
10. Organized visits for recognition of the Children’s Hospital & Institute of Child
Health, by PMDC and CPSP.
11. Organized a Workshop on Basic life support Children's Hospital & Institute of Child
Health, Ferozepur Road, Lahore.
12. Secretary Organizing Committee National Conference of SSP Lahore 1995.
13. Secretary Organizing Committee SSP International Conference at Lahore 1996.
14. Co-ordinator technical scrutiny committee of the Children’s Hospital and Institute
of Child Health, Lahore.
15. Chairman Organizing Committee National Paediatric Surgical Conference being
organized at Lahore in November 1999.
16. Chairman Scientific Committee First National Scientific Symposium Children’s
Hospital & The Institute of Child Health, Lahore being organized in December 1999.

Teaching

Lectures have been confined mainly to Post Graduate students, on Job trainees and to DCH
Classes while I was working at KEMC and PGMI. Paediatric Surgery is a minor specialty and
does not have any undergraduate teaching programme at The Children’s Hospital and ICH. There
are 16 postgraduates preparing for their final fellowship under my supervision. The largest
number in the country. Senior Registrars selected by the Punjab Public Service Commission
preferred Children’s Hospital over Mayo and Services Hospital where a few posts remained
vacant.
