Elderly people who are reservoir
of experience and wisdom are also a victim of number of diseases
and disabilities due to advance age and require special care and
treatment. Realizing the need to provide specialized health care
to the old people, a beginning has been made by the senior
citizens foundation of Pakistan by establishing a clinic in
Gulistan Colony, Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
The clinic is based on the principle of Primary Health Care
Approach. Providing both the preventive and curative Health
care.
Facilities:
A
clinical laboratory has been established with a Chemistry
Analyzer- catering for common bio-chemical tests viz blood
sugar, urea, uric acid, cholesterol, Creatinine, liver function
tests etc. Microscopy is also available. The clinic has started
functioning from April 12. 1997, On an average 35 patients visit
the clinic daily In short following services are to be provide
at the Clinic:

Medical
examination and consultation separately for male and female
patients

X-Ray, ECG
and other clinical and laboratory testing.

A referral
system, under which specialists in various fields are
available for consultation at fixed days, and time.

Provision
of spectacles, hearing aids and mobility equipment.

Counseling
regarding appropriate measures for maintaining good health.

Physiotherapy treatment.
-
Ambulance
service to fetch incapacitated patients, and to transport them
to hospitals where necessary.

Providing
free medicines as prescribed

Arranging
admission in hospitals for needy patients n has also been
arranged with Medical Superintendents of 2 Civil Hospitals
(Holy Family Hospital and Rawalpindi General Hospital) to give
indoor treatment to elderly patients on the recommendations of
Senior Citizens Cynic s Doctors.

Retired
Medical Officers (Male and Female) are available to examine
patients free of charge.

Referral
services have been arranged with specialists of Civil
Hospitals who have agreed to give free consultation to me
elderly. referred by Senior Citizens Cynic.
